County's open house for holidays set at Liriodendron

Harford County Executive James M. Harkins will be the host at a holiday open house for county residents, county employees and their families from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Dec. 16 at Liriodendron Mansion, 502 W. Gordon St., Bel Air.

Santa Claus will pay a visit with gifts for the children. Music will be provided by the Gospel Travelers.

Gift sale to benefit cancer research center

AMC will hold a holiday gift boutique from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 7 at Liriodendron mansion, 502 W. Gordon St., Bel Air.

Greens, poinsettias, wreaths and other holiday items will be available.

Proceeds benefit the AMC Cancer Research Center and the Johns Hopkins Pediatric Oncology Center.

Show will feature pottery by Harford college students

A studio pottery show and sale featuring ceramic artwork by Harford Community College students and staff will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 5 in Joppa Hall, Room J47.

A portion of the proceeds will go to the HCC Fine Art Scholarship Fund.

Jarrettsville fire company presents train garden

The Jarrettsville Volunteer Fire Company will hold its 22nd annual Train Garden from Dec. 12 through Jan. 11 at the fire station, 3825 Federal Hill Road, Jarrettsville.

The train garden will be open from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Dec. 12, 19, 22, 23, 26, 29 and 30 and Jan. 9. The garden will be open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., along with a craft show from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 13. Train garden hours will be from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. Dec. 14, 20, 21, 27 and 28 as well as Jan. 3, 4, 10 and 11. The garden will be closed Dec. 24, 25 and 31 along with Jan. 1.

Admission is free, but donations are accepted. Group tours are available by appointment only. Reservations: 410-557-0299.

Gilchrest plans to hold town meeting tomorrow

Rep. Wayne T. Gilchrest, a 1st District Republican, is holding a town meeting at 7 p.m. tomorrow at Cecil Manor Elementary School, 971 Elk Mills Road, Elk Mills.

"The House will be staying in session possibly through this weekend to get our work done before the Thanksgiving holiday, so this meeting will give me a chance to talk about all the last-minute bills Congress considered, including the energy bill and the bill to add prescription drugs to Medicare," Gilchrest said.

Parks department plans ski weekend

The Harford County Parks and Recreation Department is sponsoring a Ski Montage Getaway Weekend on Feb. 6 through 8 at the Woodlands Inn and Resort in Wilkes-Barre, Pa.

The tour includes bus transportation from the Churchville Recreation Complex, two nights' hotel accommodations, buffet breakfast each morning, and a buffet dinner Saturday and Sunday. Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. The fees are four people per room, $215 per person; three per room, $235 per person; and two per room, $245 per person.
