Holiday ballet productions

`Nutcracker': The Harford Ballet Company and Harford Dance Theatre will stage the Tchaikovsky classic.

The Harford Ballet Company will present two performances of The Nutcracker at the John Carroll School at 6 p.m. Dec. 20 and at 1 p.m. Dec. 21 to benefit the Harford County chapter of the Family Tree.

So far, the company has raised $6,000 for the Family Tree, which is dedicated to preventing child abuse and neglect.

Harford Ballet Company Director Pam Villeneuve said the Family Tree is "a real positive organization to strengthen families."

Christine Villeneuve-Jones and Meredith Rainey, who have both danced professionally, will perform the roles of the Sugar Plum Fairy and the Cavalier, respectively. They join the 30 other dancers, including magician Eddie Robinette as Drosselmeyer.

HCC presentation

Tchaikovsky's classic ballet will also be staged at Harford Community College's Amoss Center, 200 Thomas Run Road, as the Harford Dance Theatre presents its holiday production Dec. 12-14.

The production opens with an abbreviated 90-minute performance at 5 p.m. Dec. 12, A full-length version will be offered at 8 p.m. Dec. 13. Other performances are scheduled for 8 p.m. Dec. 12 (full-length); 3 p.m. Dec. 13 (abbreviated); and 3 p.m. Dec. 14 (full-length).
