Blast tonight

Matchup: San Diego Sockers (2-4) vs. Blast (4-3)

Site: 1st Mariner Arena

Time: 7:35

Radio: WCBM (680 AM)

Outlook: The Sockers bring a two-game winning streak into the arena tonight, as does the Blast. The Blast has shown an improved work ethic and produced 16 goals in its last two games. San Diego, meanwhile, appears to be blending its veteran and young talent better after an 0-4 start in which it was playing without Paul Wright (suspension). This is the first meeting between the teams this season. The Blast and Sockers split the series, 2-2, last year. The Sockers' roster includes two former Blast players, defenseman Sean Bowers and Wright. Their lineup also includes veteran Victor Nogueira, one of the top goalkeepers in MISL history and currently second in the league with a 4.13 goals-against average. Among the Sockers' offensive leaders are Mark Ughy (6 goals, 1 assist), Wright (3 goals, 2 assists) and Bowers (4 goals, 1 assist). The Sockers are 0-1 on the road. The Blast, too, has a former Sockers player suiting up, Chili Farias, who came in a trade for Bowers. Its goalkeeping duties are in the hands of Scott Hileman (4.50 GAA), the MISL's goalie of the week. The Blast this week signed goalkeeper Brian Rowland (a UMBC grad and the ninth overall pick in the 2003 Harrisburg Heat dispersal draft) to a one-year deal with an option year. The Blast's Lee Tschantret needs just three points to become the 18th player in league history to reach 900 for his career.
