Emily N. Marshall, 79, community volunteer

Emily N. Marshall, a community volunteer, died of a heart attack Tuesday at her North Baltimore home. She was 79.

Born Emily Niernsee Brady in Baltimore and raised in Roland Park, she attended Calvert School and was a 1942 graduate of the Bryn Mawr School. She earned a social work degree from the University of Maine in 1972.

For the past 20 years, Mrs. Marshall was an active volunteer at the Franciscan Center.

A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 11 a.m. today at St. Pius X Roman Catholic Church, York and Overbrook roads, Rodgers Forge.

Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Richard K. Marshall, a retired Gilman School Latin teacher and wrestling coach; four sons, Ken Marshall of Ellicott City, James Marshall of York, Pa., and William Marshall and Charles Marshall, both of Columbia; two daughters, Emily Berry Marshall Hoak of Williamsburg, Va., and Ellen Marshall Wood of Topsham, Maine; two brothers, the Rev. James Brady of Baltimore and George Brady of Bethesda; a sister, Eleanor Brady Fenwick of Brooklandville; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
