On November 12, 2003, MRS. ELSIE HUGHES DOWDY, a resident of Cockeysville, died after a brief illness. Mrs. Dowdy was born on August 6, 1917 in Reedville, VA. She graduated from Reedville High School and attended Strayer Business College in Washington, D.C. She began her career with the Monumental Brick Company and retired as head of the brick division of the SACO Supply Company in 1983. Mrs. Dowdy was a long-time member of the Suburbanites in the Timonium area. She was married to Floyd Dowdy, deceased and was the mother of Judith LaCalle, also deceased. Surviving are: grandson, Jonathan LaCalle; son-in-law James LaCalle and his wife Lynne; step-granddaughter Jessica Rice and her husband Matthew; step-grandson Ryan Weller and his wife Dana; step-great-grandchildren Zachary and Nathan Weller; nephew Raynor Hughes and his wife Adrienne; nephew Charles Hughes and his wife Judy; and niece Marianne Ellison and her husband CharlesA private memorial will be held at Highview Memorial Gardens in Fallston. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mrs. Dowdy's name to the American Cancer Society, 8219 Towne Center Drive, Baltimore, MD 21236-0025
