Police arrest man in cruiser theft

November 18, 2003|BY A SUN STAFF WRITER

THE SUSPECT — A man sought in connection with a series of crimes Saturday night in Harford County that included two carjackings at gunpoint, an abduction and the theft of a state police cruiser was arrested last night in Philadelphia by FBI agents and U.S. marshals, authorities reported.

The suspect - who police said was in a stolen car and fled in the vehicle as a companion was being arrested - was identified as Karief Youmans, 22, of Philadelphia. He was taken into custody in an apartment in that city, the FBI said.

Police said Youmans was driving a stolen car Saturday that crashed near Havre de Grace. That was followed by the theft of a police cruiser and two armed carjackings. In one carjacking, a pizza delivery man was forced into his trunk and driven to Philadelphia, where he freed himself and called police.
