Terps cruise into final four, 5-0

COLLEGE PARK - Five players scored as third-seeded Maryland defeated Penn State, 5-0, in the second round of the NCAA field hockey tournament yesterday.

The Terrapins will make their eighth NCAA tournament final four appearance Friday against Duke, an 8-2 winner over Old Dominion.

Maryland (20-3), a three-time NCAA champion, took a 2-0 lead in the first eight minutes. Juniors Anja Boettcher and Tiffany Marsh scored in the sixth and eighth minutes, respectively. Junior Colleen Barbieri made it 3-0 in the 20th minute to effectively put the game away by halftime.

The Terps outshot Penn State (18-7) by 13-4 in registering their second shutout in as many games in this tournament.
