Bowie State men, women triumph

Anton Jennifer and Allen Van Norden combined for 65 points as Bowie State defeated Cheyney, 105-99, in the men's college basketball opener for both teams yesterday.

The Bulldogs trailed for most of the second half until Bakary Konate's three-pointer put them up for good - 94-92 with 2:40 left. Bowie State then reeled off six points for a 100-92 lead with 1:23 to go.

Jennifer (36 points) went 8-for-10 from the foul line in the closing two minutes. Van Norden (29 points) hit a three with two seconds left in the first half to tie it at 53. The Bulldogs broke loose by shooting 60 percent from the field and 85.7 from the line in the second half.


Bowie State 89, Cheyney 62: Allison Hardy scored 23 points and Rachill Robinson had 21 as the Lady Bulldogs (1-1) took third place in the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic at the A.C. Jordan Arena.

Hardy and Robinson were both All-Classic team selections.
