Bowie State falls to Central State

Host Bowie State took an early lead but couldn't hold on as Central State (Ohio) defeated the Lady Bulldogs, 90-79, in the opening round of the Coaches vs. Cancer Tip-Off Classic last night.

Bowie led by eight points - 45-37 - at the half before the Lady Marauders (1-0) hit 17 two-pointers and 17 free throws in the second half.

A layup by Danaea Williams at 8:54 gave Central State a 66-64 lead. Bowie's LaToya Rawls hit a jumper at 6:15 to tie the score at 70, but the Lady Bulldogs would get no closer.

The Lady Marauders would make 10 free throws in the final six minutes to seal the win.

Rachille Robinson and Allison Hardy led Bowie with 17 and 16 points, respectively. Central State's Williams led all scorers with 25 points.

Central State faces Elizabeth City State today at 2 p.m., and Bowie plays host to Cheyney at 4 p.m.
