WILLIAM MCKINLEY GARMER, JR. died on Wednesday, November 12, 2003 in Geneva, IL. He was born in Baltimore, MD. He graduated from Baltimore polytechnic Institute. He attended Johns Hopkins University while working as a chief inspector for the Glenn L. Martin Company, a manufacturer of airplanes. He moved to Media, PA in 1950 and worked for Vertol, a manufacturer of helicopters. He coached his son's team in the Media Little League. He moved to Carrollton, KY in 1959 and managed the Carrollton Plant of Teledyne Wirz, a manufacturer of metal extrusions. He was a member of the Carrollton Christian Church, a director of the First National Bank of Carrollton, a member of the Carrollton Utilities Board, a 32nd degree Mason, a member of the Scottish Rite, a member and office holder in the Rotary Club and a member of the Madison Country Club. he was an avid golfer. He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Grace DeLane Garmer; a daughter, Leslie Garmer Owings (Lamar) of Geneva, IL; a son, Bill Garmer (Kim) of Lexington, KY; three grandchildren, Nathan Lamar Owings and Amanda DeLane Owings of Chicago, IL and Lindsey DeLane Garmer of Lexington, KY; two sisters, Dorothy Annette Prenger of Centennial, CO and Phyllis Marie Seaborg (Richard) of Hampstead, MD; a great aunt, Zella Mae Garmer of Memphis Tenn; six nephews and one niece. A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, November 20 at 11 A.M. at the Carrollton Christian Church. memorials may be made in his name to the Carrollton Christian Church or the Carroll County Public Library, Carrollton, Kentucky 41008
