Patrick Healey

Calvert Hall, boys soccer

The senior midfielder had three goals and three assists in three tournament victories to lead Calvert Hall to its second straight Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference title. Healey assisted on the first goal in a 2-1 quarterfinal victory over Archbishop Spalding and scored the first goal, assisted on the second and netted the third in a 4-0 semifinal win over top-ranked and previously unbeaten Archbishop Curley.

In the Cardinals' 2-1 championship victory over McDonogh, last year's runner-up, Healey assisted on the tying goal and scored the game-winner - both in the final 22 minutes - before dropping back on defense. The four-year starter and first-team All-Baltimore County selection from last fall has 32 goals and 31 assists in his career, with 12 each in goals and assists this year, eight each as a junior and seven each as a sophomore.

Lauren Maranto

Severna Park, field hockey

The outstanding center back provided dynamic play at both ends all season to lead the top-ranked Falcons (18-1) to their Maryland-record 14th state title, highlighted by Saturday's 3-1 victory over Bethesda-Chevy Chase in the Class 3A final.

Maranto's powerful drive on penalty corners played a part in all three of the Falcons' scores Saturday as she finished with one goal and two assists. Defensively, the senior co-captain used quick anticipation and smart positioning to effectively disrupt opposing attacks and connect with teammates ahead.

In their 19 games, the Falcons recorded 14 shutouts and allowed seven goals. Maranto, an All-Metro first-team selection as a junior, finished with six goals and two assists.
