Carrie L. Kaufmann, 97, homemaker, secretary

Carrie Louise Kaufmann, a homemaker and former Severna Park church secretary, died Tuesday of congestive heart failure at the Charlestown Retirement Community. The former Severna Park resident was 97.

Born Carrie Louise Stahl in Baltimore and raised on Cross Street, she attended city public schools and earned a diploma at Strayer Business College.

In the early 1920s, she and her husband, Henry John Kaufmann II, a cabinetmaker, moved to Severna Park. During World War II, she became an Army secretary and worked in Odenton.

She was an early member of Woods Memorial Presbyterian Church, where she was secretary from 1953 to 1959. Mr. Kaufmann, her husband of 63 years, died in 1987.

Mrs. Kaufmann was an accomplished knitter. She was formerly an active swimmer and boater.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. tomorrow at Our Lady of the Angels Chapel, 715 Maiden Choice Lane, Catonsville.

Survivors include her two sons, Henry J. Kaufmann III of Tavares, Fla., and F. William Kaufmann of Baltimore; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
