Owens appoints members to county work force board

Anne Arundel County Executive Janet S. Owens has appointed David Croghan, Jason Groves and Janis M. Harvey to the Anne Arundel County Workforce Investment Board.

They will serve through September 2005.

Croghan is the dean of work force development and business services at Anne Arundel Community College. Groves is an area manager for external affairs with Verizon and Harvey is the executive director of the YWCA of Annapolis and Anne Arundel County.

Owens also reappointed Penny Cantwell, Alvin Collins, Barbara Elliott, Steve Harrison, Sharon Julius, Vesta Kimble, Robert McGlotten, Michael Phennicle, Russell Roeding and James Turner to additional two-year terms. Currently serving two-year terms through September next year are Todd Hollis, Grant Smelzer, Alvin Smith and Michael Wright.

The Workforce Investment Board, in collaboration with 11 other Maryland work force boards, identifies the priorities that will direct Maryland's plan to address the issues of an increasing demand for trained workers.

Phillips restaurant names Brosso its executive chef

Carole Brosso has been named executive chef of Phillips Annapolis Harbor restaurant.

In her position, Brosso oversees daily planning and management of food, beverage and catering production, as well as menu development for the restaurant.

A graduate of the Culinary Institute of America and a member of the American Culinary Federation, Brosso also manages the kitchen staff.

Previously the executive working chef for Buddies Pub & Jazz Club in Baltimore, Brosso joined Phillips Harborplace restaurant in June.

Local families in need of holiday `adoption'

The Salvation Army of Annapolis and Southern Anne Arundel County is seeking businesses, groups and individuals to adopt families at Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Families need food, toys and clothing. The Salvation Army will provide first names, gender, ages and sizes. The deadline for signing up for Thanksgiving is Nov. 14. The Christmas deadline is Nov. 26. Christmas items must be taken to the Salvation Army by Dec. 15.
