69s are up 1 in team Cup

The top seven teams posted the only under-par rounds and are within a stroke of each other after the opening round of the annual Baltimore Cup at Caves Valley Golf Club yesterday.

The concluding round in the 18-team event will be played today at Hayfields Country Club.

Rick Sovero-Andy Pataki and Len Callahan-Jason Raivel each shot 2-under-par 69 to squeeze in front of five teams at 70.

Bert Moreno, half of last year's winning team, who is partnered this time with Mike Whitehead, matched par of 71, and two-time winners Bob Kaestner and Evan Hileman were a stroke back at 72.
