Democratic club to meet tomorrow in Westminster

The Carroll County Democratic Club will meet at 7 p.m. tomorrow at Frisco Family Pub in Carroll Plaza Shopping Center on Englar Road, Westminster.

Hampstead Mayor Haven Shoemaker will discuss the status of the Hampstead bypass.

The club's membership runs from July 1 to June 30. Dues are $10 per person or $20 per family and may still be paid. Membership dues and information can be sent to Maxine Wooleyhand, 511 Manor Road, Sykesville 21784. Checks should be made payable to Carroll County Democratic Club.

Taxpayers group to meet at senior center tomorrow

The Carroll County Taxpayers Association will meet at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow at Westminster Senior Center.

Robert Binford will discuss "Raising Taxes or Lowering Expectations."

The Carroll County Taxpayers Association is an affiliate of the Maryland Taxpayers Association, a group of citizens who monitor tax legislation at the local level.

The association also helps property owners to read their property tax documents and protest high assessments.

All property owners and interested residents are welcome.

College lecture to feature authors on nonviolence

The Carroll County Human Relations Commission will sponsor a lecture on nonviolence at 7 p.m. Wednesday in McDaniel Lounge at McDaniel College.

Ira Zepp and Charles Collyer will speak about their new book, Nonviolence: Origins and Outcomes. Copies of the book will be available for sale at the lecture.

Zepp, a retired professor of religious studies at the college, was active in the civil rights movement of the 1960s. Collyer, a professor of psychology at the University of Rhode Island, is a nonviolence trainer.

Both men are associated with the Zepp Center for Nonviolence and Peace Education, a program of Common Ground on the Hill at McDaniel College.

County announces repairs set for roads this week

The Carroll County Department of Public Works has announced road projects for this week.

Historical Society to hold annual dinner Nov. 13

The Historical Society of Carroll County will hold its 64th annual dinner meeting Nov. 13 at the Mount Airy Firemen's Activity Building on Twin Arch Road at Route 27.

The evening will start with a social hour at 6, and a turkey and oyster dinner will be at 7. The business meeting will begin after dinner and include the election of the 2004 board of trustees.

The guest speaker will be Stan Ruchlewicz, administrator of economic development for Westminster, discussing "Revitalizing Our Main Streets."

The cost is $25 and reservations are required by Wednesday.
