Harney's fire company gets $70,000 federal grant

The Harney Volunteer Fire Company has received $70,000 from the Department of Homeland Security's Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program, Sen. Barbara A. Mikulski's office announced yesterday.

The money is to be used to purchase a thermal-imaging camera to help firefighters find people in smoke-filled buildings and other low-visibility situations, the announcement said.

The grant will also allow the fire company to upgrade its self-contained breathing apparatus and to purchase equipment that will help firefighters fill their air tanks quickly when battling a fire.
