WINE OF THE WEEK

October 29, 2003|By Michael Dresser

2000 Forest Glen Cabernet Sauvignon, Oak Barrel Selections ($10). This rich, full-bodied and chunky California red wine isn't complex, but it is pure cabernet - and what's wrong with that? There's plenty of black-currant fruit, a touch of smoked meat, a dollop of chocolate and more than enough flavor to justify the price. It seems young - not tannic but a little brash - and would probably smooth out with a few more months in bottle. Serve with a wide range of red-meat and pasta dishes.
