Man killed, 2 hurt in Bel Air crash

An 85-year-old man was killed and two people were injured in a two-car accident Sunday in Bel Air, authorities said yesterday.

John Cooper, 90, of Bel Air, was driving east on Tollgate Road in a 2003 Cadillac when he went through a stop sign at Ring Factory Road and struck a southbound 2001 Dodge Neon driven by 16-year-old Jean Hankerso of Bel Air, police said.

Harry W. Branflick of Bel Air, a passenger in Cooper's car, died at Shock Trauma, police said.

FOR THE RECORD - Brief articles published Oct. 28 and Sunday incorrectly described the circumstances of a fatal traffic accident Oct. 26 in Bel Air. According to Edward Hopkins, a spokesman for the Harford County Sheriff's Office, John Cooper, 90, of Bel Air was driving his 2003 Cadillac east on Ring Factory Road when he failed to stop at a stop sign and was hit by Jean Hankerson, 16, who was southbound on Tollgate Road in a 2001 Dodge Neon. Cooper died Friday at Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore of complications from the accident. Harry W. Branflick, 85, a passenger in the Cadillac, died Oct. 26.
