Equity must drive school budget process

Your article "Councilmen say school board cut too much" (Oct. 14) brings up equity issues. Future capital budget levels are subject to many conditions, including the Republican drive to cut taxes.

Those parts of the county to gain the new schools and which have benefited the most from our excellent school system are the least willing to pay for it. Once the new schools are built, the benefiting population will be even more eager to cut taxes.

For equity, there needs to be compromise so all school capital budget projects throughout the county move ahead together sharing available funding levels.
