McDaniel College to hold town hall meeting on drugs

McDaniel College will hold a town hall debate on the drug war at 7 p.m. Wednesday in McDaniel Lounge.

Eric E. Sterling, president of the Criminal Justice Policy Foundation, and Anthony J. O'Donnell, minority whip for the Maryland House of Delegates, will discuss "The Drug War: Our Domestic Vietnam?"

The event is free to the public.

Transportation Dept. seeks residents' feedback

The Maryland Department of Transportation will hold a series of open houses and public meetings around the state for citizens to voice their ideas and comments on the state's transportation network.

An open house will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and a public hearing will be held from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Wednesday at Governor Thomas Johnson High School, 1501 N. Market St., Frederick.

Residents can comment on the work of the Transportation Task Force and the development of the Maryland Transportation Plan. The task force has been charged with setting forth a long-term funding strategy to pay for the state's most critical transportation needs.

Comments at the public hearing may be given orally or in writing; oral comments will be limited to five minutes. Those wishing to speak are asked to contact MDOT at 888-713-1414.

Family law office to hold open house

The Family Law Administration of the Circuit Court for Carroll County will hold an open house from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Friday in Suite 208 of the Courthouse Annex, 55 N. Court St., Westminster.

Interested citizens can meet the staff, learn about the services and see the newly renovated offices, including the Children's Waiting Room, with its donated furnishings, toys and mural. Don Sharpe painted the mural, Lowe's donated the materials, volunteers from Volunteer Community Services painted the furniture, and Adelphia installed cable for free.

The new office will allow the following personnel and services to be centralized: the courthouse advice clinic, domestic violence court services coordinator, custody evaluator, visitation services court coordinator, family law administrator, administrative assistant, and a public computer with legal materials donated by Maryland Legal Assistance Network.

Human services to sponsor day care food program

Human Services Programs of Carroll County will continue to sponsor the Child and Adult Care Food Program for Family Day Care homes in Carroll County for 2003-2004.

Meals will be provided at no extra charge to children in licensed family day care homes on a nondiscriminatory basis.
