Catherine W. Noon, 93, registered nurse

Catherine W. Noon, a registered nurse who headed the purchasing department at the old Church Home and Hospital in East Baltimore, died of kidney failure Wednesday at Atlantic General Hospital in Berlin. She was 93.

Born and raised in Princess Anne, Catherine Wharton was a graduate of Princess Anne High School and, in 1929, Church Home's nursing school.

She worked as a private-duty registered nurse from 1929 until 1956, when she was named head of the hospital's purchasing department. She retired in 1974.

Mrs. Noon had lived in the Loch Raven Apartments from 1956 until moving in 1999 to Ocean Pines.

A theater buff, she was a member of and backstage worker at Vagabond Players Inc. She was also an opera fan and seldom missed a Saturday afternoon radio broadcast of the Metropolitan Opera Company. She attended performances of the Baltimore Opera Company and the Met in New York.

She was a communicant of the Episcopal Church of the Nativity in Cedarcroft.

Services will be held at noon today at St. John Neumann Roman Catholic Church in Ocean Pines.

Mrs. Noon is survived by a son, Jack P. Noon of Princeton, N.J.; a daughter, Catherine A. Heubeck of Ocean Pines; a sister, Margaret Wharton of Ocean Pines; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Her marriage to John Noon ended in divorce.
