Taneytown library to offer story times, games

The Taneytown library branch, 10 Grand Drive, will offer:

"Family Story Time" for all ages at 9:45 a.m. today on "Bears, Oh My!" and 7 p.m. Wednesday on "Proud of Me." Children ages 3 and younger must be with an adult.

"Play Games at the Library" at 4 p.m. Wednesday for teens.

Youths can play games, including chess, Battleship and Othello.

Lessons will be given to those who don't know how to play a game.

Those who beat the librarian can win chocolate.

Swartzbaugh completes Marine basic training

Marine Corps Reserve Pvt. Kevin M. Swartzbaugh Jr. recently completed 12 weeks of basic training at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C.

He is the son of Betty Jo Hamburg of Taneytown and Kevin M. Swartzbaugh Sr. of Union Bridge.

He is a 2001 graduate of Francis Scott Key High School.

Ex-police officer speaks at New Windsor church

John McCullom, a retired Baltimore City police officer, was the guest speaker at the monthly luncheon recently at the New Windsor Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church.

He discussed home and personal security and answered questions from participants.

Union Bridge council: The Union Bridge Town Council will meet at 7 p.m. Monday at Town Hall, 104 W. Locust St. 410-775-2711.

Taneytown planning: The Taneytown Planning and Zoning Commission will meet at 7:30 p.m. Monday at City Hall, 17 E. Baltimore St. 410-751- 1100.

Keysville Evangelical Lutheran: Worship for the Festival of the Reformation and Holy Communion will be held at 10:30 a.m. Sunday with Deacon Charles Barnhart Jr.'s sermon, "No Baloney!" Trinity Evangelical Lutheran: Worship will begin at 8 a.m. and 10:15 a.m. Sunday with the Rev. Nicholas Brie preaching on "I Don't Know Nothin' 'bout No Birthin'." Church school is at 9 a.m. Sunday. St. Paul's United Methodist: Children's Sabbath Day will be observed Sunday. A coffee fellowship will be held Sunday after worship. The next Book Club meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday to discuss Miss Julia Speaks Her Mind by Ann Ross. The church holds a community coffee at 9 a.m. Mondays and Fridays.
