Gamber church to hold Christmas bazaar Saturday

Calvary United Methodist Church will hold its annual Christmas At Calvary holiday bazaar from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the church, 3939 Gamber Road (Route 91), Gamber.

Christmas crafts, a country store, toys, quilts, a bake table and silent auction will be featured. An oyster platter lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., and carryouts will be available.

Dinner and dance set at Gatehouse Museum

The Sykesville Gatehouse Museum will hold its World War II/USO dinner and dance Saturday at the Sykesville-Freedom District fire hall.

The Thom Roland Band, a 16-piece big band orchestra, will perform period music. Door prizes and a contest for the best period-dressed couple will be awarded.

Tickets are $20 and are on sale at the museum, 7283 Cooper Drive.

All proceeds will benefit the museum.

Fund-raiser planned for Sykesville resident

Family and friends of Bret Harman will hold a bull roast fund-raiser from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Sykesville-Freedom Fire Department carnival grounds to help the Sykesville resident in his fight against cancer.

Six years ago, Harman had throat cancer.

Last spring, he learned he has liver and pancreatic cancer.

Harman and his wife, Tammi, have three daughters and run a small business.

Advance tickets are $40 per person.

A 50/50 raffle will be held at the bull roast; tickets are $10.

Library offers story time, lessons on manicures

The Eldersburg library branch, 6400 W. Hemlock Drive, is offering:

Family Story Time for all ages (3 and younger with an adult) at 7 p.m. today on "Digging Up Dinosaurs" and 9:45 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. Monday on "Wash Day."

"Internet Basics for Beginners" for teens and adults at 7 p.m. today and 11 a.m. Friday. Registration is required.

"Learn How to Do a Professional Manicure on Yourself" for ages 13 and older at 7 p.m. tomorrow. Beauty consultant Mary Klausing will go through the steps of a manicure. Participants will learn nail care and try colors from samples. Registration is required.

"KidWorks Presents: Pajama Party" at 6:30 p.m. Thursday for all ages (children 3 and younger with an adult). The program will feature sleepy-time activities. Pajamas and slippers are welcome.

"Saturday Read and Play" for children 3 years old and younger at 10:30 a.m. Saturday. Stories, lap games, tickles, bounces and rhymes, and a playgroup will be featured. Children must be with an adult caregiver.

The Eldersburg Book Club for adults will meet at 2 p.m. Nov. 8 to discuss two short books, The Secret Life of Bees by Sue M. Kidd and From the Dust Returned by Ray Bradbury.

American Legion post donates money to school

The Sykesville American Legion Memorial Post 223 recently donated $500 to Century High School for its Career Academy activities. The money will be used to defray expenses for field trips and job shadowing experiences and extend students' learning opportunities into the business community.
