Orientations offered on health care careers

Anne Arundel Community College will offer free programs on health professions this month:

Tomorrow at 10 a.m., radiological technology program orientation, Florestano Building, Room 418.

Tomorrow at 2 p.m., therapeutic massage program orientation, Florestano Building, Room 402.

Tomorrow at 4 p.m., pharmacy technician program orientation, Florestano Building, Room 402.

Thursday at 10 p.m., physician therapist program orientation, Florestano Building, Room 402.

Thursday at 6 p.m., physician assistant program orientation, Florestano Building, Room 101.

North Arundel Hospital schedules health events

North Arundel Hospital has scheduled health screenings and educational presentations at its Arundel Mills storefront, between Jillian's and mall entrance No. 4.

Today from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., foot screenings.

Thursday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., the hospital's human resources department will hold a job fair. Staff members will discuss openings and accept resumes and applications.

Friday from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., computerized neck and back screenings.

Monday from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., blood pressure screenings.

Oct. 28 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., foot screenings; 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., blood pressure screenings.

N. Arundel Hospital offers blood pressure screenings

North Arundel will offer blood pressure screenings at its Arundel Mills storefront, between Entrance No. 4 and Jillian's:

Hospital expands hours for blood donations

Anne Arundel Medical Center is seeking donors to help ease a blood shortage.

The medical center's Blood Donor Center has expanded its hours for donor appointments to:

Mondays, 7:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.

Tuesdays, 7:15 a.m. to 6:45 p.m., with evening hours by appointment.

Wednesdays, 7:15 a.m. to 4:45 p.m., with evening hours by appointment.

Thursdays, 7:15 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.

Fridays, 7:15 a.m. to 2:45 p.m.

The donor center is on Level One of the Acute Care Pavilion, 2001 Medical Parkway. Information: 443-481-4215.

CPR, first aid courses offered by Red Cross

Courses in cardiopulmonary resuscitation and first aid have been scheduled at several sites in Anne Arundel County by Red Cross of Central Maryland. They include:

"Adult CPR," teaching emergency action principles, rescue breathing, anti-choking procedures and rescue for victims age 8 and older. The course will be offered from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Edgewater Red Cross, 3475 Pike Ridge Road, Edgewater.

"Infant and Child CPR," teaching emergency action principles, rescue breathing, anti-choking procedures and CPR for infants. The course will be offered from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Severna Park United Methodist Church, 6922 Ritchie Highway. The cost is $35.

"Infant and Child CPR and First Aid," including infant and child CPR certification, emphasizing first aid for those who work in child care settings. Classes will be held from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at Severna Park. The cost is $40.

"Crime Avoidance Training," focusing on security awareness, tough-target strategies, safety on the move, using an automated teller machine safely and responding to threatening situations. Instructors will go to a facility, group or organization at a time that is convenient for the group. A minimum of 10 people is required. The cost is $9.95 per person.

AAMC offers yoga classes for beginners and experts

Anne Arundel Medical Center offers yoga instruction. Classes, unless noted, meet on the second floor of the Sajak Pavilion:

"Beginning Yoga," 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays and 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays.

"Continuing Yoga" (experience required), 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Mondays and 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesdays. Class meets at 25 Shaw St., Annapolis.

"Yoga for Beginning and Advanced Students," 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Wednesdays.

"Yoga Mid-Day" (beginning and advanced), 11 a.m. and noon Tuesdays and noon Wednesdays.

"Weekend Stretch" (beginning and advanced), 5 p.m. Fridays.

"Gentle Yoga," 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesdays.

"Yoga for the Young at Heart," for age 40 and older, 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Thursdays.

"Yoga for Stress Management," 6:15 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. Thursdays.

"Yoga for Weight Loss," 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Mondays. The class meets at 25 Shaw St.

"Ashtanga, or Power Yoga" (yoga coupled with breathing exercises). Call for date and time.

"The Mix" (a combination of yoga and Pilates), 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursdays and 7:15 a.m. to 8:15 a.m. Saturdays.
