Community college appoints PR director

Anne Arundel Community College announced the appoointment of Linda L.S. Schulte as director of public relations and marketing. She will serve as spokeswoman, and coordinate public relations and marketing activities, and supervise staff graphics designers, editors, writers and the campus photographer. A resident of Laurel, she is a former director of global communications with the Plasma Protein Therapeutics Association.

Sylvan hires Ramirez as financial executive

Sylvan Learning Systems has chosen Hernando Ramirez as vice president of financial operations and corporate controller. He will be responsible for corporate financial management functions, including providing financial leadership to its international campus-based operations. Formerly the chief financial officer of Valent Biosciences Corp., the native of Colombia earned his master's in business administration from Roosevelt University in Chicago.

Media Works hires Furlough as media buyer

Media Works announced that Nancy Furlough has joined the Owings Mills-based medial buying and planning service agency staff as a junior media buyer. A graduate of James Madison University, the Canton resident will analyze and place print ad matter and have responsibility for daily checking of broadcast schedule and times and client billing packages.

1st Mariner hires Boschert for development post

1st Mariner Bank has appointed David G. Boschert new-business development officer for the Canton-based bank. He will have responsibility for attracting new business in the Anne Arundel County area and for the siting of branch offices and automated teller machine locations. Formerly president of Community Image Consultants, the Crownsville resident is a graduate of the University of Maryland. College Park and has served in the Maryland legislature.

Smith joins Ober/Kaler in Washington office

Ober/Kaler, a Baltimore based regional law firm has announced that Steven R. Smith has joined its health law practice in the firm's Washington office. A law graduate of the University of Maryland, he was senior vice president and general counsel for Dimensions Health Corp. The Beltsville resident is a member of the Maryland, American and Prince George's bar associations and several professional groups, including the American College of Healthcare Executives and the American Health Lawyers Association.

McGuireWoods admits Dillon as associate

McGuireWoods has admitted Charles T. Dillon as an associate in the law firm's financial services department. He will specialize in public finance. The Navy veteran and former Security and Exchange Commission law clerk earned his law degree from the University of Baltimore and received his master's degree in taxation law from Georgetown University.

NOVAVAX appoints two vice presidents

NOVAVAX, Inc., based in Columbia, appointed Ford R. Lynch, formerly of Eli Lilly & Co., senior vice president of sales and marketing and Howard C. Miller, previously with ArcLight Systems LLC, a Cardinal Health company, as vice president of U.S. sales. Lynch is a registered pharmacist and a graduate of Northeastern University. Miller is a business administration graduate of Butler University.
