One man killed, another hurt in 2-vehicle crash

FINKSBURG - A collision of two vehicles yesterday at Route 91 and Deer Park Road in Finksburg killed one man and injured another, state police reported.

Carl Joseph Wallace of the 3200 block of Wheatfield Road, Finksburg, was driving a 1994 Ford Escort north on Route 91 about 1:45 p.m. when he attempted to turn left onto Deer Park Road and was struck by a southbound 1993 Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck driven by Carroll Garland Jr., 63, of the 2400 block of Sandymount Road, Finksburg, police said.

A passenger in the Escort, John Jones, 22, of the 1200 block of Deer Park Road, died at Carroll County General Hospital, while Garland was treated at Maryland Shock Trauma Center and Wallace refused treatment, police said.

The accident remains under investigation.

Hunter is injured after he accidentally shoots self

UNION BRIDGE - A 46- year-old hunter accidentally shot himself in the elbow Saturday night after he dropped his muzzleloader at his Union Bridge home, state police said yesterday.

Terry Lee Harris had walked inside his home in the first block of Phillips Lane just after 8 p.m. when the muzzleloader discharged, hitting him in the elbow, police said.

Harris was listed in serious condition yesterday at Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore.
