Planning panel in Finksburg to address impact fees

The Finksburg Planning Area Council will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at Sandy Mount United Methodist Church, 2101 Old Westminster Pike.

The agenda will include an update on the Gerstell Academy and impact fees.

All Finksburg area residents, business owners and guests are welcome.

Girl Scout troops to hold Halloween dance Friday

Girl Scout Cadette Troop 502 and Senior Girl Scout Troop 112 are sponsoring a fifth-grade Halloween dance from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday at the Westminster United Methodist Church social hall, 165 E. Main St.

Admission is $5. A professional disc jockey will play music. Hot dogs, soda and candy will be sold. Door prizes will be given away.

Dancers must be picked up at the door by a parent.

Friends of Lutheran village to hold spaghetti supper

The Friends of Carroll Lutheran Village will hold its annual spaghetti supper from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday in the 205 St. Mark Way dining room.

The menu will include spaghetti and meatballs, salad, garlic bread, dessert and beverage. Tickets are $7 for adults and $3.50 for children.

Westminster library offers story times, poetry reading

The Westminster library branch, 50 E. Main St., will offer:

Family Story Time for all ages (children 3 and younger must be with an adult) at 7 p.m. tomorrow, 1 p.m. Wednesday, 1 p.m. Thursday and 11 a.m. Saturday on "Really Red."

"Open Mike Night - Celebrating Teen Read Week Oct. 19-25" at 6:30 p.m. Thursday for teens, who can read from their poetry for 5 minutes. Poetry must not contain foul language, homophobic or racist language, or explicit sexuality. Everyone who reads will get a prize, and a drawing will be held for a gift certificate to Paradiso. Those attending are requested to stay for the entire program and remain quiet during readings. Registration is required.

"Horse Lover's Story Time" for ages 7 to 10 at 1 p.m. Saturday. Horse stories, facts, a craft and a live horse will be featured. Registration is required.

"Ghost Walk" for teens and adults at 6:45 p.m. Oct. 27, 29 and 30. A slide show on ghosts and legends in the downtown Westminster area will be shown, then participants will take a walk to nearby sites. The program is recommended for ages 10 and older; children younger than 14 need parental permission and an adult chaperone. Registration is required.

"Crochet a Scarf" for teens and adults at 7 p.m. Nov. 3. Beginners will create a striped scarf. Participants must take their materials and supplies. Registration is required.

Book Discussion Club for adults at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 5 to discuss The Master Butchers Singing Club by Louise Erdrich.

Junior Woman's Club elects new officers for 2003-2004

The Junior Woman's Club of Westminster recently announced new officers for 2003-2004.

Officers are: Kristin Barmoy, president; Debbie Kenvin, vice president; Patty Jo Green, corresponding secretary; Brenda Murphy, recording secretary; Martha Brown, assistant treasurer; Diane Kreinbrink, treasurer.

Formed in 1952, the community-based Westminster club is a member of the General Federation of Woman's Clubs.

Mothers meet: MOMS Club of Westminster will meet at 10 a.m. tomorrow at Ascension Episcopal Church, 23 N. Court St. The club is a support group for stay-at-home mothers in Westminster and surrounding areas. Children are welcome. 410-346-6420.
