Lil Shelton, Severna Park's veteran field hockey coach, will be trying for her 400th career victory tomorrow night when the No. 3 Falcons take on No. 5 South River in the Anne Arundel County championship game in Edgewater.

The Falcons came away with an 8--0 win over Arundel yesterday to put Shelton at 399 wins over the course of her 29 seasons at Severna Park.

Along the way, she has won 24 county titles (including 8-for-8 in county championship games dating to 1995), 20 region titles and a Maryland-best 13 state titles.

The Falcons (12-1) will try to avenge their only loss of the season - a 3-2 setback to the Seahawks (12-0) on Thursday - while providing another milestone for Shelton and another county crown.

"I just don't want anything to take the mind off of my girls playing the county championship game - that's the primary objection," said Shelton. "We're just going to have to play as a team, talk to each other and get our play in sync."

Yesterday, Sam Price finished with three goals and three assists in the Falcons' win over Arundel.
