GEOFFREY C. GETMAN, a resident of Rockland, Maine, died on October 6, at the age of 59. He founded the Atlantic Baking Company in Rockland a year ago. Geoff grew up in Buffalo, NY and lived in New York City, Greenwich, Ct and Baltimore, MD before opening the bakery. He is survived by his former wife, Judith Fletcher Getman, and their daughters Elizabeth and Sarah. A son, Thomas, died as a child in Vinalhaven, Maine. Geoff was the son of the late Charles W. and Virginia Henry Getman, and the brother of Susan Abernethy, Virginia Harkey and Lisa Ellis. Geoff received an AB degree from Brown University and an MBA from Columbia University. He served in the Vietnam War as an Army Infantry Captain and received a Purple Heart. He worked as an Investment Manager with Fiduciary Trust Company, Morgan Stanley and USF&G. Geoff collected antiques and fine photography. He loved classical music, reading the New York Times, baking pies and growing orchids at home. All are invited to a service in celebration of his life, on Saturday, October 11, at 1:00pm at St. Peter's Episcopal Church on White Street in Rockland. A reception will follow at the Atlantic Baking Company, 351 Main Street. Donations to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation of the Vinalhaven Land Trust are welcome.
