Baltimore-based Guard unit to deploy Tuesday to Kosovo

About 20 members of a Baltimore-based Maryland Army National Guard unit are scheduled to deploy on a multinational peacekeeping mission in Kosovo at 11 a.m. Tuesday from the downtown 5th Regiment Armory.

The 29th Mobile Public Affairs Department is being mobilized for one year and will be sent initially to Fort Stewart, Ga., and then to Kosovo to provide public affairs support of Operation Joint Guardian, according to an announcement issued yesterday.

While there, the unit will produce The Guardian East newspaper and video presentations, and prepare press briefings.

Man fatally shot on east side was resident of Edgewood

A man found shot to death in East Baltimore was identified yesterday as a Harford County resident. It was the 203rd homicide in the city this year, compared with 201 at the same time last year, police said.

Eastern District officers were in the 2200 block of Orleans St. about 10:25 p.m. Wednesday when they heard a gunshot. They were directed to the nearby 200 block of N. Patterson Park Ave., where Tyrell Edwin Rollins, 26, of the 700 block of Dogwood Dell Court in Edgewood was bleeding from a gunshot wound to the head, said Agent Donny Moses, a police spokesman.

Rollins was pronounced dead at the scene, and police were trying to identify two men seen running from the area. Anyone with information about the killing was urged to call the homicide squad at 410-396-2100.

Registration ends today for sign language classes

LOCH RAVEN VILLAGE - The Baltimore County Department of Recreation and Parks, Office of Therapeutic Recreation Services, will offer basic and intermediate sign language classes for adults and children age 6 and older on Tuesday evenings beginning next week.

The classes will be held at Loch Raven Recreation Center, 1801 Glen Keith Blvd. The basic signing class meets from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., and the intermediate class from 7:45 p.m. to 9 p.m. The program runs for eight weeks.

League to offer appraisals of antiques tomorrow

TOWSON - The Baltimore County League of Women Voters will sponsor an antiques appraisal from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. tomorrow in the Pickersgill Retirement Community auditorium, 615 Chestnut Ave.

The appraisal will feature Robert Jansen, co-owner of the Antique Man in Fells Point. Admission is $10, which includes one appraisal. Each additional appraisal is $5, with a limit of three. Information: 410-377-8046.

Fall Festival is tomorrow, Sunday at Cromwell park

LOCH RAVEN - Cromwell Valley Park will hold its annual Fall Festival from noon to 4 p.m. tomorrow and Sunday.

The festival will feature crafts, cider making and rope making, demonstrations, games, farm animals, music and food. A donation of $2 per car is requested.

The park is at 2002 Cromwell Bridge Road.
