Final registration set for rec programs

Taneytown Recreation Council has announced final registration dates for programs.

Basketball registration for grades one through eight will be taken from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. today and tomorrow and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Northwest Middle School, 99 Kings Drive.

For those who registered previously, reporting dates for team selection have been changed to 6 p.m. Oct. 20 for fifth- and sixth-grade girls and Oct. 22 for boys; Oct. 21 for seventh- and eighth-grade girls and Oct. 23 for boys.

Barnyard bingo planned by fire company Saturday

New Windsor Fire Company will hold barnyard bingo beginning at noon Saturday at the carnival grounds on Atlee Avenue.

Tickets are $5. The winning square will be worth $500, with adjoining squares worth $100 or $25.

Food and beverages will be available at noon. Proceeds benefit the fire company's new building fund.

Country breakfast buffet to be served in Taneytown

St. Joseph Council 11631, Knights of Columbus, will hold a country breakfast buffet from 7 a.m. to noon Sunday at St. Joseph's Church social hall in Taneytown.

The menu will include pancakes, scrambled eggs, pudding, hominy, bacon, sausage, home fries, chipped beef, sausage gravy, toast and beverages.

The cost is $5; $3 for children ages 7 to 10; and free for ages 6 and younger.

Baked goods also will be available.

All-you-can-eat pancakes are on the menu Sunday

Union Bridge Fire Company will hold an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast from 7:30 a.m. to noon Sunday at the fire hall.

The menu will include pancakes, French toast, sausage and sausage gravy, pudding and hominy, home fries, scrambled eggs, baked apples, biscuits, muffins and beverages.

The cost is $5; $2 for children older than age 5; and free for children age 5 and younger.

Valley Lions Club slates fall community blood drive

Valley Lions Club will hold its fall community blood drive from 3 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 21 at the Pleasant Valley fire hall, 2030 S. Pleasant Valley Road.

Knitting, games, stories on the schedule at library

The Taneytown library branch, 10 Grand Drive, will offer:

Family Story Time for all ages (age 3 and younger must be with an adult) at 9:45 a.m. today on "Slow and Steady," and 7 p.m. Wednesday on "That's So Silly."

"Yours, Mine & Ours: Living in a Blended Family" at 7 p.m. today for all ages. Michele Barattucci of the Carroll County Training and Development Center will discuss issues divorced families face as they try to create working relations with their former spouse and a secure environment for their children.

"Knitting for Beginners" at 1 p.m. today for adults. Participants must take supplies to learn the basics of knitting, stitches, and choosing yarn and needles. Registration is required.

Play Games at the Library at 4 p.m. Wednesday for teens. Youths can learn and play board games. Those who beat the librarian can win chocolate.
