Kathryn E. Leese, 79, schools cafeteria manager

Kathryn E. Leese, a retired cafeteria manager and avid needleworker, died of respiratory failure Monday at Harbor Hospital. The former Essex resident was 79.

Mrs. Leese had moved back to her native Middletown in Frederick County in 1998, after half a century in Essex.

The former Kathryn E. Alexander was a 1941 graduate of Middletown High School. She was married for 29 years to Millard P. Leese, a Bethlehem Steel Corp. welder who died in 1979.

Mrs. Leese worked for 25 years as a cafeteria manager for Baltimore County public schools, retiring in 1986 from Sparrows Point High.

An avid needleworker, she crocheted hats, booties and blankets for newborns, which she distributed at area hospitals. She also made lap robes for residents of nursing homes. She enjoyed reading mysteries.

Mrs. Leese was a member of the Eastern Star and a former member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church of Christ in Essex.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. today at Fink Funeral Home, 426 Crain Highway, Glen Burnie.

Mrs. Leese is survived by a daughter, Charlene K. Drumheller of Middletown; two brothers, Freddie Alexander of Walkersville and Guy F. Alexander Jr. of Middletown; three sisters, Margaret Snoots of Jefferson and Geneva Palmer and Winifred Summers, both of Middletown; a granddaughter; and a great-granddaughter.
