Health Department offers flu shots for county residents

The Anne Arundel County Department of Health will offer flu shots to adult county residents this month. Pneumococcal vaccine also will be available. The shots are free, but the department requests a $10 donation to cover administrative costs. Medicare Part B will pay for the vaccinations (Medicare cards must be presented).

Vaccinations will be available:

Today from 9 a.m. to noon and from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Health Services Building, 3 Harry S. Truman Parkway, Annapolis.

Friday from 9 a.m. to noon and from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at O'Malley Senior Center, 1275 Odenton Road, Odenton.

Oct. 16 from 9 a.m. to noon and from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at South County Senior Center, 27 Stepneys Lane, Edgewater.

Oct. 22 from 9 a.m. to noon and from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Pasadena Senior Center, 4103 Mountain Road, Pasadena.

Oct. 24 from 9 a.m. to noon and from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Pascal Senior Center, 125 Dorsey Road, Glen Burnie.

Oct. 28 from 9 a.m. to noon and from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Arnold Senior Center, 49 Church Road, Arnold.

North Arundel Hospital schedules health events

North Arundel Hospital has scheduled health screenings and educational presentations at its Arundel Mills storefront, between Jillian's and mall entrance No. 4:

Tomorrow from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., presentation on colon cancer; 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., discussion of diabetes, diet and lifestyle changes; 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., cholesterol screenings.

Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m., information on breast cancer; 10 a.m. to noon, back screenings.

Friday from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., discussion of diabetes, including meal planning, label reading and food substitutions.

Monday from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., blood pressure screenings.

Oct. 14 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., foot screenings; 9 a.m. to noon, blood pressure screenings.

Oct. 15 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., blood pressure screenings.

Oct. 16 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., blood pressure screenings; 8 a.m. to 11 a.m., blood pressure and lung capacity screenings.

Hospital expands hours for blood donations

Anne Arundel Medical Center is seeking donors to help ease a blood shortage.

The medical center's Blood Donor Center has expanded its hours for donor appointments to:

Mondays, 7:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.

Tuesdays, 7:15 a.m. to 6:45 p.m., with evening hours by appointment.

Wednesdays, 7:15 a.m. to 4:45 p.m., with evening hours by appointment.

Thursdays, 7:15 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.

Fridays, 7:15 a.m. to 2:45 p.m.

The donor center is on Level One of the Acute Care Pavilion, 2001 Medical Parkway. 443-481- 4215.

Red Cross seeks help with area blood drives

The Greater Chesapeake and Potomac Blood Services Region of the American Red Cross is seeking volunteers to help at blood drives. Volunteers assist donors and serve refreshments.

This program is open to people age 14 and older. Volunteers greet donors and provide them with pertinent reading materials, serve refreshments and observe donors for post-donation reactions. Training will be provided. Information: 800-272- 0094, Ext. 1; or karlofft@usa. redcross.org.
