After-schoool programs to be in spotlight Oct. 9

The Bridges Over Wilde Lake will celebrate "Lights on After School," a national campaign to highlight the benefits of after-school programs and the resources needed to keep them going, from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 9 at Wilde Lake High School.

The nationwide event is sponsored locally by Bridges Over Wilde Lake, an after-school program for Bryant Woods and Running Brook elementaries and Wilde Lake middle and high schools.

The rally will include food, speakers, entertainment, door prizes and information about after-school activities.

Bridges Over Wilde Lake is funded by a federal 21st Century Community Learning Center grant.

Youths, educators, parents, grandparents, business and community leaders and youth organizations are welcome.

Group to hold seminar on fitness and finances

The River Hill Community Association will offer a seminar on fitness and finances from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday at Claret Hall in River Hill Village Center.

The class will combine coaching on nutrition, training and exercise by Kathy Grade and information on investing and paying for college by financial consultant Sharon Green.
