Yankees update

Privately, there has been plenty of grumbling in the Orioles' clubhouse about having to make up the Tropical Storm Isabel game - the Sept. 18 five-inning 1-1 tie - as part of a doubleheader today in New York. The Yankees, who clinched their sixth straight AL East title on Tuesday, hold a 2 1/2 -game lead on the Oakland Athletics in the race to clinch home-field advantage throughout the playoffs. The Yankees have several MVP candidates, but it will be tough for any of them to win the award. Jorge Posada might have the best case. He is batting .278 with 29 home runs and 98 RBIs, but has held the club together with his catching. Alfonso Soriano has 13 leadoff home runs, surpassing the record of 12 Brady Anderson set with the Orioles in 1996. Derek Jeter ranks among the AL batting leaders, and Jason Giambi has 41 home runs.
