State review of hospital finds only minor problems
ROCKVILLE - A state review of Shady Grove Adventist Hospital found two minor documentation problems in the hospital's Intensive Care Unit but no trouble with patient care, according to a report released yesterday.
The state Office of Health Care Quality, which began an investigation last month after allegations that an ICU nurse might have contributed to the death of one or more patients at the Montgomery County hospital, stated in its report that medical records of one patient lacked a discharge summary and a final diagnosis and a second did not include evidence of a discharge or death summary.
Concern about patient care arose in July after the hospital received a complaint that former nurse Coleen M. Thompson failed to follow proper procedures in the care of a 63-year-old woman in the ICU and might have contributed to the death of other patients.
