A Salisbury man was shot by Maryland State Police trooper late Friday, allegedly while trying to escape after robbing a McDonald's.

Barry L. Bradley, 38, was under police guard at Peninsula Regional Medical Center, recovering from multiple gunshot wounds to the upper torso. The trooper has been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation into the shooting.

Police said the suspect was coming out of McDonald's on Salisbury Boulevard brandishing a sawed-off shotgun when a trooper pulled into the parking lot and ordered him to drop the gun. Police said the man refused and turned toward the officer, who fired. According to reports, the man dropped the gun and a bag containing several hundred dollars, ran to his car and was caught as he got into it.
