Baltimore Symphony Orchestra
It's official. Baltimore's Fall party season is under way. As usual, the kickoff came with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra's annual affair. Almost 1,000 gowned and tuxedoed guests converged on Meyerhoff Symphony Hall for "All That Jazz -- 21st Anniversary Gala." First on the evening's agenda was a BSO concert inside the hall of American jazz that featured tap dancer Karen Callaway Williams, the saxophone Capitol Quartet, drummer Steve Hanna and cabaret singer Ann Hampton Callaway. Next up was a lively auction. Then the crowd adjourned to the Meyerhoff lobby for cocktails, hors d'oeuvres and mingling before returning to the hall, where a steak dinner awaited.

Johns Hopkins Children's Center Pediatric Trauma Service
Two things greeted you as you stepped off the Legg Mason building elevator and into the Center Club: lots of welcoming faces and even more welcoming aromas. Chefs from Baltimore, Washington and as far away as New Orleans and Mexico had set up food stations throughout the club to dish out some of their specialties for "Caring Cuisine 2003," a benefit for Johns Hopkins Children's Center Pediatric Trauma Service.
There were choices like crawfish bruschetta, escargot-and-blue-cheese-stuffed ravioli, crab cakes, pollo alla cacciatora and Japanese hamachi ceviche with mango citrus salad, just to name a few.
In between nibbles, you could peruse the silent auction, check out the evening cityscape below or catch up with old friends.
