Jessup 7th-grader wins pre-teen crown

September 12, 2003

Hannah Danielle Mollerick, a seventh-grader at Patuxent Valley Middle School, has won the title of Pre-Teen InterContinental 2003-2004. The Jessup resident received her crown, a replica of Princess Diana's, on board the Carnival cruise ship Inspiration last month.

"Twelve of us went on the boat to see her compete," said her father, Glen Mollerick. "It was pretty exciting."

Hannah's mother, Jolene, and sisters Sarah, 8, and Alanah, 6, were there to cheer her on, as were three of her grandparents, an aunt and some friends.

"My brother was supposed to go, but he passed away a week before the cruise. He died of heart failure," Glen Mollerick said. "My brother was so proud of her. So [Hannah's winning] was the best thing that happened to us in the last couple of months. We needed good news."

A prize package with an estimated value of $80,000 includes the crown, a scepter, wardrobe certificates, and a cruise to crown the next queen, Jolene Mollerick said.

"It's like Miss America for a 12-year-old," she said. "It's really something else."

Hannah, who has been dancing since she was 3 1/2 years old, takes classes five days a week at La Maison De La Danse in Laurel and dances competitively. This year, she plans to visit local hospitals and volunteer as a goodwill ambassador on behalf of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and the American Heart Association.
