MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL: Suspended Cubs P Antonio Alfonseca seven games and fined him for making contact with umpire Justin Klemm in game Tuesday; suspended Cubs bullpen coach Juan Lopez one game and fined him for arguing with Klemm from bullpen; fined Cubs OF Moises Alou for arguing and directing inappropriate comments at Klemm. Suspended Athletics OF Terrence Long four games and fined him for making contact with umpire Marvin Hudson in game Tuesday against Orioles. Suspended Blue Jays manager Carlos Tosca and fined him for actions and comments in game Aug. 26.

ANGELS: Recalled C Tom Gregorio and P Chris Bootcheck from Triple-A Salt Lake. Placed C Benjie Molina on 60-day DL with broken wrist. Designated P Bart Miadich for assignment.

BREWERS: Recalled OF Pete Zoccolillo from Triple-A Indianapolis.

METS: Placed SS Jose Reyes on 15-day DL, retroactive to Sept. 1, with sprained left ankle.

PADRES: Placed 1B Ryan Klesko on 15-day DL a day after he had surgery on right shoulder.

ROCKIES: Recalled P Scott Elarton, P Jason Young, IF Garrett Atkins, IF Clint Barmes and OF Mark Sweeney from Triple-A Colorado. Purchased contract of IF Kit Pellow from Colorado Springs. Activated P Nelson Cruz from 15-day DL; sent him outright to Colorado Springs.

NUGGETS: Signed F-C Francisco Elson of Netherlands to multi-year contract.

WARRIORS: Waived G Antoine Rigaudeau.

NCAA: Approved Mississippi's two-game suspension of CB Travis Johnson, one of five former and current players who made $1,463 worth of phone calls using an access code taken from athletic department worker; added game to three-game suspension Ole Miss recommended for OL Antonio Sanders when it reported violation to SEC in April. ... Stripped Hawaii men's volleyball team of Division I national title and fined it $5,000 for using ineligible player.

CHICAGO STATE: Named Angela Jackson women's basketball coach.

MIAMI (OHIO): Suspended K Jared Parseghian, great grandnephew of former Notre Dame coach Ara Parseghian, from football team after he was charged with theft for allegedly taking piece of artwork from city park and street sign.

DOLPHINS: Reached injury settlements with WR Oronde Gadsden and LB Bam Hardmon.
