County groups offer opportunities for volunteers
Volunteer positions are available through the Volunteer Center for Anne Arundel County.
The Annapolis London Town and South County Heritage Area program revitalizes local communities through the development of heritage tourism and preservation. Volunteers age 18 and older are needed in the Annapolis office for Web site maintenance and bookkeeping. Times are flexible and parking is reimbursed. Information: 410- 222-1805.
Bay Appreciation Days: The two-day event, sponsored by the Maryland Watermen's Association, will showcase the working bay and its commercial watermen Sept. 27 and 28 at Sandy Point State Park. Volunteers are needed for setup Sept. 26, to staff the information booth, and to help with cultural arts, face painting, historical presentation and other activities. Information: 410-269-6622.
Centro de Ayuda, Center of Help, offers assistance to Hispanic immigrants in the Annapolis area. Reading and language tutors are needed. Information: 410-266-8013.
Historic Annapolis Foundation: Archaeology volunteers are needed, as well as docents at William Paca House and Garden. Other volunteer opportunities include conservation, preservation, horticulture, museum management, membership services and marketing. Training is provided. Information: 410-267- 7619, Ext. 1033.
Hospice of the Chesapeake: Hospice Cup needs volunteers for the Sept. 13 race. Help is needed between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m. for the boat hospitality crew, shore party team, setting up tables and chairs, meal setup and food service, taking tickets and more. North Arundel Hospital/Annapolis Striders: Volunteers are needed to help with the B&A 10K Sunday at 8 a.m. Volunteers help with water stops, the post-race party and other needs. Places are still available for runners and walkers. To register: 410-268-1165. To volunteer: 410-787-4367.
