Man charged in fatal stabbing of acquaintance

Baltimore police have arrested an East Baltimore man and charged him with first-degree murder and first-degree assault in a fatal stabbing, authorities said yesterday.

Jeremy F. Campbell, 22, of the 2200 block of Orleans St. is charged in the death of Gavin Branch, 20, of the 2100 block of E. Fayette St. Branch was stabbed once in the heart with a kitchen knife, police said.

Detective Martin Young said police arrested Campbell, who had known Branch for about 15 years and served time with him in jail, in the 2000 block of Ashland Ave. at 9:30 p.m. Sunday. Young said the men were arguing over a woman when the stabbing occurred.

Branch was the city's 188th homicide victim this year.
