MTA plans to add quiet cars to more MARC trains

August 28, 2003

The Maryland Transit Administration is adding more quiet cars to its MARC trains to meet the demands of passengers who want to ride in peace without hearing cell-phone chatter or bleating pagers.

The agency announced yesterday that beginning Tuesday all afternoon Penn Line trains that depart Washington between 3:34 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. will have a quiet car. Train 877 on the Brunswick Line and Train 852 on the Camden Line also will have quiet cars.

Most morning Penn Line trains from Baltimore to Washington have quiet cars. Passengers in the cars are asked to turn off cell phones, pagers and laptop computers and to keep conversations hushed. Children are not allowed.
