On August 25, 2003, C. ROBERT APPEL, 78, died Monday at Hunterdon Medical Center, Flemington, NJ. Born in Baltimore, he lived in Baltimore, Dallas, PA and 15 years in Levittown, PA, before moving to Harbourton, NJ, 32 years ago. Mr Appel served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a sonar specialist aboard supply ships in the Pacific. A 1950 graduate of the University of Baltimore with a B.S. in Business Administration, he joined Ortho Pharmaceuticals, Raritan, NJ in 1953 as a sales a representative. In 1968, Mr. Appel developed Ortho's national sales training program and served as its first director until the mid 1970's. Mr. Appel's last position was with Ortho Diagnostics as Vice President of International Sales and Marketing. He retired from Ortho in 1987 after 34 years. Mr. Appel was a past president of the Church Council at Resurrection Lutheran Church of Levittown, PA. He was active in Scouting and founded a Cub Scout Pack. Boy Scout Troop and Explorer Post in Levittown. He was a driver for Meals on Wheels of Hopewell Valley and served on the arbitration board of Hopewell Township. He enjoyed reading, gardening, bird watching and international travel. Son of the late Charles S. and Pauline M. Appel. Mr. Appel was married for 55 years to the late Lola Rhea Appel. He is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, C. Randall Appel of Virginia Beach, VA and R. Scott and Jill Appel of Pottstown, PA; two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda Appel and B. Douglas Bruce Jr., of Montgomeryville, PA. and Susan Appel and Donald C. Miller of Lewisville, NC; a brother Henry Mann Appel of Whiteford, MD and 13 grandchildren, Erin, Jessica, Ben and Bret Appel, Josh, Jody and Jake Mosser, Sean Appel, Max and Gus Miller and Cathy, Linda and Brooks Bruce. Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. on Saturday, August 30 at Blackwell Memorial Home, 21 N. Main St., Pennington, NJ. Burial will be in Harbourton Cemetery in Harbourton, NJ.
