Joseph Francis Rose Jr., 60, employee of IBM

Joseph Francis Rose Jr., a customer service representative for IBM and avid fisherman, died of cancer Aug. 7 at his Severna Park home. He was 60.

Born in Baltimore and raised in Rock Hall on the Eastern Shore, Mr. Rose graduated from McDonogh School in 1960 and attended what is now Towson University. He served in the Army Reserve from 1965 to 1969.

In 1969, he married Sandra Elliott. He and his wife, a special education teacher in Anne Arundel County, moved to Severna Park in 1972.

Mr. Rose worked at IBM's customer service office in Baltimore for 27 years.

He enjoyed fishing across the mid-Atlantic region and built his own rods.

For years, Mr. Rose coached his son's and daughter's baseball, softball and soccer teams. He was the field announcer for the Severna Park High School girls soccer and lacrosse teams when his daughter played.

He was a member of Grace United Church of Christ in Baltimore.

Services were held Monday.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a son, Brian E. Rose of Arnold; and a daughter, Michelle R. Baumgartner of Leesburg, Va.
