Joseph D. Borkowski, 86, Bethlehem Steel employee

Joseph D. Borkowski, a retired steel worker and former Eastpoint resident, died of complications from kidney surgery Aug. 6 at a hospital in Fort Collins, Colo. He was 86.

Mr. Borkowski was born in Apalachicola, Fla., and moved to Baltimore as a teen-ager. He served in the Army Air Forces as an electrician during World War II, and subsequently in Japan during the occupation.

He went to work in the late 1940s repairing railroad cars at the Sparrows Point plant of Bethlehem Steel Corp. He retired in 1979.

Mr. Borkowski was an avid fisherman and Orioles fan.

Services were held Saturday in Fort Collins.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, the former Mary Heubschman; a son, Joseph R. Borkowski of Fort Collins; and a granddaughter.
