Services for Dr. Ralph Gerard Rindfleisch, an Arnold physician killed last week when his single-engine airplane crashed in Pennsylvania, were held Monday at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church in Severna Park.
Dr. Rindfleisch, 48, was a Navy veteran and an emergency physician at Laurel Regional Hospital. He flew volunteer missions with Flying Doctors of America to provide medical care in Vietnam, China, Ecuador, Guatemala and Peru, and was planning to fly to Mongolia next month.
Born in Richmond, Va., and raised in Washington, he was a jockey as a teen-ager, riding at Pimlico and other racetracks. He attended the University of Maryland, College Park, and earned his bachelor's degree from the George Washington University Physician's Assistant Program in 1982. He graduated from the Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine in 1987.
