Mabel A. Barranco, 96, lifelong area resident

Mabel A. Barranco, who lived in the Baltimore area for all of her 96 years, died of a stroke Friday at her home in Towson.

Mrs. Barranco, born Mabel Wood in West Baltimore, attended Strayer's Business College. In 1929, she married Salvatore H. Barranco, a Baltimore physician. The couple had three children. Her husband died in 1986.

In past years, she was a member of the McDonogh School Patrons Club and sponsored fund-raisers for the nursing school at St. Joseph Medical Center. Mrs. Barranco also enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking, reading and traveling.

A funeral Mass will be offered at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, 689 Ritchie Highway in Severna Park.

She is survived by two sons, Frank T. Barranco Sr. of Lutherville and Robert S. Barranco Sr. of Severna Park; a daughter, Mary A. Del Rosso of Plaistow, N.H.; 16 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren.
