Elizabeth Melvin Patterson, wife of the former publisher of The Sun, died Thursday of a stroke in Virginia Beach, Va. The Towson resident was 80.
Mrs. Patterson, who was born and raised in Annapolis, was married to Donald H. Patterson Sr., who was publisher of the Sun from 1977 to 1983.
Mrs. Patterson married her husband in 1941. They had four children. Mr. Patterson died in 1997.
She devoted her life to family, especially her children and grandchildren, said son Donald "Pat" Patterson of Virginia Beach. His mother loved meeting people, and enjoyed traveling, especially to Bermuda, Mr. Patterson said.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. tomorrow at St. Anne's Episcopal Church, 199 Duke of Gloucester St., Annapolis.
In addition to her son, she is survived by another son, Tim Patterson of Annapolis; two daughters, Elizabeth "Bonnie" P. Langslet of Montvale, N.J., and Susan P. Davis of Annapolis; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
