Police ask public for help identifying body found in cart

Police are seeking the public's help in identifying a woman whose body was found in a plastic trash bag in a shopping cart behind a West Baltimore street.

Homicide Detective Michael Johnson said the body bore no obvious signs of foul play and that the cause of death has not been determined. He said toxicology tests that would indicate death by drug overdose were incomplete. Johnson said no one has been reported missing who matches the woman's description.

A passer-by noticed a foot sticking out of the bag about 1 p.m. July 7 behind the 1200 block of Vincent St. and called police. Anyone with information is asked to call Johnson at 410-396-2100.

Bridge repair, sewer work closing parts of two roads

A portion of Benatlou Street in Northwest Baltimore is closed and a portion of Cross Country Boulevard, also in that part of the city, is scheduled to be closed soon, the Baltimore City Department of Transportation has announced. Motorists are encouraged to use alternative routes during both closings.

The southbound lanes of Bentalou Street are closed from Presstman Street to Laurens Street for emergency bridge repairs. Traffic will be detoured east on Presstman Street, south on Monroe Street, then west on LaFayette Street back to Bentalou. The department expects the closing to last about three days.

Beginning about Monday, Cross Country Boulevard, which becomes Fallstaff Road to the east, will be closed to through traffic from Gulley Road to Wallis Avenue. Westbound traffic on Cross Country Boulevard will be detoured west on Clarks Lane and north on Park Heights Avenue back to Fallstaff Road. Eastbound traffic on Cross Country Boulevard will be detoured south on Park Heights Avenue and east on Clarks Lane back to Cross Country. The department expects the closing to last for about two weeks for sewer work.

Police looking for gunman who robbed Dundalk store

DUNDALK - Baltimore County police asked for the public's help yesterday to identify an armed robber who held two pharmacy employees at gunpoint as he forced them to open the safe.

The robber in the July 10 holdup of the Rite Aid store in the 1700 block of Merritt Blvd. is described as a black male, 6 feet 1 inch tall with a medium build. He was last seen running toward Holabird Avenue wearing a dark baseball cap, a sweat suit jacket and dark pants, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 410-307- 2020 or Metro Crime Stoppers at 410-276-8888 for a reward if a suspect is found and convicted.

Balto. Co. Historical Trust adds 2 members to its board

TOWSON - The Baltimore County Historical Trust, a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving historical, aesthetic and cultural properties, has added two members to its board of directors.

The new members are Sarajane V. Quinn, coordinator of the offices of health, physical and dance education in Baltimore County, and Dr. John Conrad Bernstein, director of the Maryland Environmental Trust.

"I am delighted that John Bernstein and Sarajane Quinn have joined the board of the Baltimore County Historical Trust," said Alex Montague, board chairman. "They are both highly qualified and highly capable individuals who will help the trust accomplish its mission."

'Senior Solutions' offers information on retirement

The summer edition of Senior Solutions, a Comcast Cable show produced by the Baltimore County Department of Aging, runs on Channel 25 at 9 a.m. Mondays, at 11:30 a.m. and 9 p.m. Wednesdays and at 7 p.m. Fridays.

The program helps seniors and their families find the resources to plan for retirement, research long-term care insurance and care for aging relatives.
